Growing up, when I was little, every Sunday we went into Queens to my dad's side of the family to my grandparents' house. (see Food - It's the heart of all we do!)
This was long before all my health issues. (see The Day My Life Changed)
Now my parents are the grandparents and everyone flocks here. Not every Sunday, but most, especially in the summer and for birthdays.
This past Sunday we celebrated my two nephews' birthdays.
My son and I cooked. We made Lasagna and Shepherd's pie. A strange combo, I know, but my youngest nephew wanted the Shepherd's pie. And many liked the Lasagna idea, so the menu was set. We had an International menu.
Check out my Gluten Free Vegetable Lasagna and Gluten Free Vegetarian Shepherds Pie.
I'm guessing we had about 25 to 30 people to feed and lasagna definitely fills people up, that's for sure.
We had a lot of laughs, great conversation, smiles, and of course good food. Even our pets joined in the fun! My son and daughter-in-law brought their new pup and my sister brought her old dog who she doesn't like to leave home alone anymore. Sadly, my sister's dog passed last night.
Then there was my mom's small dog who usually hides from all the chaos.
After dinner the birthday cakes were served with coffee. Of course, after two rounds of purposely singing "Happy Birthday" terrible. It's a family tradition.
It was a fun day filled with family, friends and food!
