Drain and rinse your black beans and pour into a bowl. This is the basis for your patties. I know it doesn't look like much yet, but, we'll get there. (see video above)
Mash the beans but don't make mush. Season with chopped red onion, garlic powder, salt and gluten free breadcrumbs. Mix well. (see video)

Form the bean mixture into patties. Brush with olive oil on both sides and place into the air fryer. If you don't have an air fryer, you can place them into a preheated 350 degree oven. I cooked them in the air fryer for 15 minutes at 400. I flipped them over once. (see video)
About a minute before the patties are done, remove two and place into a glass container for future use. You don't want to cook them all the way. This way, when you heat them up in the microwave, they aren't dried out. Add gluten free cheese to the one remaining. I chose extra sharp cheddar. Continue to cook until cheese is melted. (see video)
Remove the bean pattie from the air fryer and top with your favorite toppings. I chose romaine lettuce and balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Serve with a side of your choice. I chose red potatoes which I made in the air fryer.
